Romantic Homes Magazine, Oh Snap!

How thrilling is this?  My wreath on the cover of Romantic Homes.  In my little world it's pretty darn top shelf.

I've been keeping this little secret since April, telling NO ONE, not even my BFF Beth.   I wanted to make it a BIG surprise :->

I've been making my wreaths, like forever, and selling them online since 2000.  In fact it was one of my wreaths that brought me together with Susan.  That was a serendipitous encounter and we have been friends ever since.

I will be burning my fingertips off for the rest of the year now, working doggedly creating lots and lots of wreaths.  As they are born they will be listed in the store.  GeorgiaPeachez Wreaths now has a facebook page and I will update there as new wreaths become available.

Many, many thanks to all my previous customers.  Such a lovely collection of kindred souls to have shared my little obsession with vintage christmas with.

Perfect Crafting Weather

What to do when it's blazing hot outside?  Stay inside during the middle of the day when it is the hottest and craft.  In my case it has been wreath making time.

 

I'm trying to stay ahead of the game this year.  I know that when fall rolls around the demand for my wreaths will outpace my production schedule.

Shiny and Brite Today

I've got a few wreaths available today over here.  Along with the wreaths I've got a new creation as well.  I recently found some huge Styrofoam cones at the thrift store so...........

This is 22" tall and has a sweet little vintage angel on the top.  This along with my new wreaths will be up at noon EST today.  

Pat on the Back and Something New

I'm all smiles and quite proud of my self this week because I finally taught myself how to use a serger.

I scored this Bernina serger at the thrift store several years ago for the insane price of 20 bucks.  Crazy...right?

With the help of Youtube I finally sat down a couple of weeks ago and figured it out!!

I know, I know.  Using a serger is not rocket science and now I realize that.  I don't know why I let this sit and collect dust for so long.  Using a serger is FABULOUS :->

I immediately was inspired to dive into my extensive (can you say hoarder) fabric collection and make some pillow covers.  I think it's a great way to finally whittle down the inventory and share the vintage fabric love.

 

These are just a sample of what I made so far, there are many more in my shop and I am adding more every day.   

Into Jewelry Today

Well, it can be said that I am into jewelry any day, but I've been throwing my creative energy into making necklaces this week. 

I scooped them all up for a group picture and they look very interesting all massed together.

They are all made from bits and bobs of vintage beads, brooches and earrings.

I've sorted them all out and listed them in my shop.

Vintage Jewelry Redux Explosion

I don't have snow to keep me housebound, just tradesmen.

It's the dreaded/anticipated bathroom remodel that has kept my butt parked right here at chez georgiapeachez.

The bathroom proximity to my sewing studio has forced me to find other household locations to stay close yet out of the way.

I did not have idle hands however, I've been quite busy with something new for the old etsy shop.

Mullets, Crochet and Beads??

I'm wearing my jewelry making hat this weekend.  My love of vintage jewelry really pulls me towards jewelry creating. 

I love the look of vintage jewelry remodeling.  You know, put together a few vintage pieces to create a stunning new piece.

I've been studying this 1971 craft booklet.

I've also been organizing all my old jewelry stash.  Taking apart a lot of old pieces and sorting the beads.

I've been very inspired by these looks.

The jewelry, not the hairdo. 

That is one hell of a mullet though :->

It's Frieze Inside

Bev over at 44th Street Fabric did a nice little interview with me.

She asked where I am currently getting my inspiration from.

This is my collection of vintage upholstery fabrics.  This fabric is known as frieze or frise.

Used to upholster furniture from the 40's and 50's.  I'm in love with this stack of fabrics. 

These are my vintage swivel chairs from Kroehler.

It's been great to work with so far and makes a wonderful purse.

Vintage Christmas Monday

Two words I love to put together...vintage and christmas. 

I'm joining the list over at  Anything Goes Here.  It's a blog block party every Monday and I'll take any excuse to share my vintage christmas goodies.

Now you know I can't pass up christmas items from the past and I will stockpile them even if I have no clue what I'm going to do with them. 

Such was the case when I discovered a huge box full of old (and probably dangerous) strings of christmas light.  The colors really grabbed me, shades of orange and lilac, jadite greens and even pink.  Not those uniform primary colors in use today.

I tossed out the fraying electrical cords and started hoarding the bulbs.  The swirly C-9's being the most desirable.  I pondered on what to create out of my growing collection.  I knew a wreath was a logical choice but it was a few years (and more bulbs) before I had that aha!  (light bulb, ha!) moment and my first light bulb wreath was born.

I made a few wreaths that first year and then a couple more after that.  But I haven't made any for over 5 years now. 

It takes a long time to accumulate enough bulbs for these wreaths.  They aren't that easy to find (in quantity) and they go for big bucks on eBay. 

So I've made three bulb wreaths this year and that's probably it for a long time. 

Unless I hit the mother load at a future estate sale.  It could happen.
