Just for Fun

Wow, I have a lot to share on my blog but in order to procure all this funness I have put 400 miles on the Prius odometer.  So I will get it all organized and imaged up pretty, ( I hope). 

My sojourns to the DC burbs are always a sweet treat, especially because I hook up with my BFF  Beth and assorted partners in crime.

So I will get this all posted next but  before that I wanted to share a recent thrifted find.  I love it, not just because the thrift store had summed it up and tossed it into the fugly zone (priced $1), but  because it is a fabulous before/after garden junk makeover.

This wonderful "planter" is curled wrought iron painted gray.  Did you know that in the hardware store they sell outdoor paint in a battleship gray?  I see so many outdoor ornies painted this hardware store gray. ugh.

Beth and I had  a smashing good time at the Big Flea and my weekend visit in general.  I have pictures to prove it!!  I have a fabulous prom dress to photograph, you just wait!

Fluttering Around

Actually I've been really focused this week. 

This guy was just floating and fluttering around the garden today.

Just aimlessly wandering around but always coming back to the butterfly bush.

The daylilies are blooming!!

The perfect perennial.  Love full sun, tolerate some shade.  Drought tolerant.  Will grow in any soil.  Produce enough blooms to go on for weeks.  perfection.

Marauders in the Garden

What/who is eating my black eyed Susan's??

Must be some giant rabbits because the cuts are about 12 inches from the ground.  I don't have deer, my yard is fenced.  naughty bunnies.

I wanted to show my planter that is mounted on the gate to my backyard.  It get's full sun and doesn't really hold that much potting mix.  The perfect solution to this hot and dry spot is to plant sedums.  I have a huge collection of sedums and I use them everywhere in the garden.  They are perennials too!

My Voodoo lily is getting to be a giant.  It's a beautiful shade of chartreuse green.

I plundered these beautiful urns from my FIL's house in Enid, OK.  The giant urn is an antique greek olive urn.  It is so large it had to be crated to make the trip from OK to VA.  I am so thrilled to have them on my patio.  Thanks Dad!

VooDoo Magic

In just a few short weeks my VooDoo lily has really sprung to life.

Remember when it was just peeking through the mulch?

It's been about 4 weeks and check this out!

This plant came from the fabulous Plant Delights Nursery in North Carolina.

Heading Out

Today I'm leaving Virginia heading for Enid, Oklahoma.  I'm going to Enid to help my FIL get packed and sorted for his move to Williamsburg.  We are really excited to have him close by soon.

I'm really feeling that 70's vibe lately and I made a new tote for the summer that's definitely got that feeling.

I'll be easy to spot at the airport.

I'm going to miss my garden since I will be gone for 7 days.  I've left strict watering instructions and I even created a map so that hopefully nothing gets skipped over.  I don't want to come home to any crispy plants!

My seashell planters are starting to look really good.  The plants are thriving and I love the colors.

The perennial border is looking good too.

Look at that terrier!  She thinks if she sits really still right next to the bird feeder pole the squirrels won't notice her.

The patio is my favorite spot in the summer.  I'll be back in a week.

How About This One

I showed you my Maypop or passionflower vine. 

Now I want to share another favorite vine in the garden, the Candy Corn Vine.

I don't really like candy corn, but I love this vine and so do the hummingbirds.

MayPop

My passionflower vine or "maypop" has just gone crazy this year.  It must be covered with 100 buds and they have just started to open. 

These vines grew wild down the street from our house in Atlanta when I was a little girl.  They produce a round fruit that is edible or better yet, makes a big "pop" when you stomp on it.  Guess which one we did as little kids. 

The flower is so unique, I love it.
