The thrift store gods were good to me this week when I found this awesome cast iron fireplace surround waiting for me at the DAV Thrift in Hampton.
I've got grand plans for this baby and it involves a "grotto". Hmmmm......
This week began the Garden Rewards at my favorite local garden center, Countryside Gardens. I've been saving up my coupons that were handed out with previous purchases (love that) and I bee lined right over there the first day to spend them. But I didn't come home with any plants, instead I found this fabulous old fencing.
I don't know how I had missed this before, but it was kinda tucked into a corner and when I found it, yippee :->
I love the heart shapes of the scrolls. Perfect for the mandevilla vine to trail over.
I've bragged before about my VooDoo lily. Blooming right now in my garden is the Carrion Flower. From the genus Stapelia this succulent has a large bloom that once it pops open smells a bit like carrion or dead meat. That's because this weird beauty of the garden needs to attract flies for pollination.
See right there, it's working. Several flies have found it already :->
Once this bloom pops open it's quite large, about 10 inches across. It's got long fuzzy hairs on it too. Awesome.
